Mrs. Voces
Who: Lauren Voces
Experience: Bachelors in Science specializing in P.E. with a concentration in Health and Special Education from Old Dominion University. Completed master's classes in Special Ed., ED/LD, also from ODU. I was the girls' swim coach at Princess Anne H.S. from 1999-2007. I taught grades K-5 Sp. Ed. at Pembroke Meadows Elem from 1999-2007. Then, I taught grades K-3 Sp. Ed. and was a H/PE assistant from 2009-2012 at Alanton Elem. I was a kindergarten and H/PE assistant at Strawbridge Elem. from 2014-2017. Last year, I worked at Landstown Elem. as a H/PE and reading assistant. I continue to hold a VA teaching license in H/PE and Sp. Ed., ED/LD: K-12. I'm also highly qualified in language arts, social studies, and science. I had the pleasure of coaching my 6 yr. old son's soccer team for a season in the fall of 2018 for Rush Soccer. Interest and Hobbies: I was a swimmer at ODU, so I love being by or on the water. I enjoy anything competitive! I've broken two fingers playing adult kickball and have stressed out over rec. volleyball. Mostly, I cherish time with my friends and family by the pool, beach, or on my BFF's boat. I can't compete with my better half, Em's charismatic personality. I have one extrovert daughter named Alana. She will continue to attend Strawbridge Elem., where I used to work, as a 5th grader. My introvert son, Mason will be joining me this year at 3 Oaks as a first grader. Many of you might see my Aussiedoodle, Koko walking me throughout the neighborhood. Favorite Sports: I did swimming and track for 10 years growing up. I dabbled a little in field hockey and volleyball. My favorite is girls' lacrosse! I was on the first team in my H.S. on Long Island. I love teaching kids about the game and tossing with them. Favorite Teams: I'm a fair-weather NY fan. So, any struggling NY team rocks. Mostly Jets, Yankees, and Rangers. My husband went to VT. So, I'm a hokey by heart. Other favs include ODU, UNC, U of Michigan, and U of Colorado. Favorite Color: Carolina Blue, teal, and green. Favorite Vacation Destination: Hawaii or anywhere new to explore...preferably a small island with zero technology, everything included, with friends and family. Favorite Restaurant: The Landing, Civil Libation, Sage Kitchen at Anderson's, Tropical Smoothie, Panera, and Señor Fox. Favorite Quote: "Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up." I never lose. I either win or learn." -Nelson Mandela. "People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing." Dale Carnegie. "You're killin me smalls!" -Sandlot. Why I teach: When I was a little girl, I always played teacher. My mom first got me a chalkboard (to age myself), then a white board. I used to make my mom crack up as I taught my imaginary class with gusto. I always love watching it click with a student. I find it very rewarding, to hear how my former students have succeeded over my 17 year career. Each kid I've taught will always be "one of my kids". I've had the luxury of wearing many different hats in the school setting and I enjoy the variety of it. I like to stay busy, active, and I like to learn from others. I'm passionate about teaching kids about having a healthy lifestyle, and making good choices. Teaching constantly challenges me with everyday being different. The best part of my school day is when it doesn't feel like work. We're all learning and having fun at the same time. I can't wait to be a part of a new school family as well as meet all the families in my neighborhood. |
